Signal is a messaging app with privacy at its core. It is free and easy to use, with strong end-to-end encryption that keeps your communication completely private.
• Send texts, voice messages, photos, videos, GIFs, and files for free. Signal uses your phone’s data connection, so you avoid SMS and MMS fees.
• Call your friends with crystal-clear encrypted voice and video calls. Group calls supported for up to 50 people.
• Stay connected with group chats up to 1,000 people. Control who can post and manage group members with admin permission settings.
• Share image, text, and video Stories that disappear after 24 hours. Privacy settings keep you in charge of exactly who can see each Story.
• Signal is built for your privacy. We know nothing about you or who you’re talking to. Our open source Signal Protocol means that we can’t read your messages or listen to your calls. Neither can anyone else. No back doors, no data collection, no compromises.
• Signal is independent and not for profit; a different kind of tech from a different kind of organization. As a 501c3 nonprofit we are supported by your donations, not by advertisers or investors.

This is a great app and I love the security. However, there are a few gripes: for one, I wish I could choose the colors of people's names in groupchats. But more importantly, both video and audio calls are always crunchy and choppy. I hear most people say the calls are extremely clear so I don't know why that's not the case for me, but calling using Signal is always a major hassle. I will need a different app for video calls until Signal's gets fixed, but other than that it's a great app.

It's encrypted end-to-end by default. It's free (made by a nonprofit). It's not owned by FB, G, or any other big ad pusher. And it does text, voice, and video. (Missing feature: "Mark as Unread"; I find I often take a quick peek at a message and find that it requires a lengthy reply that I didn't have time to write at the moment, but then forget to come back to it until much later.)

Love signal! however I've noticed a bug to PLEASE FIX♥️: the calls do NOT ring, even with notifications on in the app, and in settings, and the phone in full ring mode. it's very frustrating because I keep missing calls. DEVELOPERS, PLEASE FIX AND I'LL BE VERY VERY GRATEFUL. i use it for a lot of my messaging and it's easy to back up messages.

What’s new
Signal secure backups are here! Now you can choose to enable automatic end-to-end encrypted backups so you'll never lose a message when you get a new phone or reinstall Signal. You can back up all of your messages and the last 45 days of media for free, or you can pay a small monthly fee to get 100 GB of storage to back up every attachment. Tap on backups in your Signal settings to get started. Thanks to everyone who helped test this feature during the beta period!
