About this app

RideWell℠ provides driving feedback to personal automobile policyholders of The Cincinnati Insurance Companies, helping them become safer and better drivers.

The app automatically detects when driving starts and stops by using the drivers’ smartphone sensors to measure their vehicles’ movements. RideWell runs in the background and uses GPS and low-power sensing methods to reduce battery consumption as it logs all driving trips. Continued use of GPS running in the background can dramatically reduce battery life. The app shows trip summaries, details on driving habits and gives useful feedback on becoming a better driver.

To use the RideWell app, drivers are insured by The Cincinnati Insurance Companies and gain access when the policyholder enrolls in RideWell through the MyCincinnati app. For additional information, insureds should call their independent agent recommending RideWell.

It worked well for awhile, other than getting dinged for braking to keep from running a red light or hitting a deer or a car that pulls out in front of you. However, in the past 2 weeks, they have gone in & made up lower speed limits where they don't really exist. I have been dinged 7 times where the app has the speed limit wrong in areas that I drive frequently & where it had the speed limit correct a month ago. They corrected most of them, but refused to correct some. I'm uninstalling.

The fact that it requires always on location and access to health data is unacceptable. Running in the background at all times is also not great. It connects and attempts to start a ride every time it connects to Bluetooth, so if you are too close to a car that is being used by somebody else where your phone auto connects you consistently have to restart your phone or force stop it.

I've been using this app for about six months now and it's really becoming apparent just how bad it is. Today it recorded a trip as starting about a half mile away from my house and traveling in the opposite direction of actual travel. Yesterday it dinged me for harsh braking and when I checked the trip log it had only recorded one of two trips and only about 25 per cent of that trip. No braking incidents were recorded. I've checked permissions for the app and they look fine. YMMV good luck
